Traffic Tickets (Infractions) - An infraction is an offense punishable by fine only.  If a defendant fails to appear and pay or contest the charges, a default judgment is entered and the fine and penalties imposed.  Appearance in court is not required.  However, the defendant must contact the court on or before the date on the citation to contest or pay the citation or to inquire about traffic school.

Traffic Tickets (Misdemeanors) - A misdemeanor offense is punishable by a fine, jail or both.  Misdemeanor citation processing, which requires a mandatory court appearance, is not available through our Interactive telephone and Internet systems.  If you have been charged with a misdemeanor, you must appear in court on the date and time listed on your citation.

Bail Forfeiture - You may forfeit bail unless your court appearance is mandatory.

Trials - You may choose to contest your citation for non-correctable violations.  Below are the two options you can choose to contest your citation.

TRIAL BY WRITTEN DECLARATION

This selection allows a defendant to contest a citation in writing without making a personal court appearance. (Vehicle Code 40902)

FORMAL TRIAL

This selection requires the appearance of both you and the citing Officer to appear in Court.  Traffic Trials are heard Mondays and Wednesdays @ 3:00 PM in Court D.

In order to contest your citation, pursuant to Vehicle Code 40519(a), the full bail amount must be posted prior to being set for either formal or informal trial.  Please call the traffic division prior to your due date to post bail.

Correctable Violations - Driver’s license, vehicle registration, and mechanical violations will be dismissed by the court if Proof of Correction and the transaction fee are presented to the court by mail or in person by the appearance date.   Proof of correction for equipment violations can be obtained by having a law enforcement officer sign off your copy of the citation.  Proof of insurance cannot be signed off by a law enforcement officer and must be present to the Court.  Driver's license and registration violations may be certified at an office of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

NOTE:  Clerk assistance may still be required on cases that involve a proof of correction, non-California driver's license, insurance violations, or failure to comply with due dates.

Fine Payment Options - If you need time to pay your ticket, payment plans are available through California Service Bureau.

Collection Services - A fine ordered by the court is payable immediately and in full. However, the court can order a referral to the California Service Bureau who will make arrangements for monthly payments.

Sign Up For Traffic School - To be eligible to attend Traffic School, you must not have received a citation within the last 18 months for which you attended traffic school.  In order to attend Traffic School, the full bail amount must be posted prior to registering with a Traffic School Provider.  See our List of Traffic School Providers.

*  If you would like to attend Traffic School and have an out of state drivers license, you must provide this court with a print out of your drivers license record in order to determine eligibility.
